How to Snap

We love to see our cakes in the spotlight on social media, and we know you do too! Here are some tips to help you take the perfect photo (or video) and make your feed as beautiful as our treats:

  • Hot knife: use a hot knife to slice our cakes (read "How to Serve" below). This creates a tantalizing surface that shimmers in the light, whetting the appetite of all who see it on Instagram.
  • Angles: don't be afraid to experiment to find the one that best showcases the cake's texture, layers, and artisanal beauty. We particularly love close-up shots for our delicate cakes, but it's all up to you!
  • Styling: our beautiful cake boxes, paper bags, and cards make excellent props, as do fruits, spirits, teas, and coffees that complement our cakes.

Once you have taken your perfect photo, don't forget to follow and tag us on Instagram (@404_bakery). Your photo may be featured by @Valrhona_UK,  @Valrhona_Asia, @pastry_certified and more!

How to Serve

Slicing: submerge knife in hot water for 30 seconds or heat blade with a blow torch before slicing. Clean and dry knife before every cut.

Lisbon Chocolate Cake

  • Take the cake out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature (18-20°C) for 10-20mins (shorten to half during summer when the weather is above 25°C).
  • Savor the different layers by letting each bite slowly melt in your mouth. Taste the notes of flavour in the mousse (vanilla and creamy), the port ganache (powerful and deep), and the brownie base (bittersweet and strong).
  • For a more in-depth experience, try each layer separately.

Gâteau au Chocolat

  • Can be served at room temperature, chilled, or warm, each option providing a different texture. For detailed instructions, please refer to the instruction card included in the box.
  • For a unique flavour, pair with sea salt or smoked paprika.
  • For the ultimate indulgence, pair a warmed slice with vanilla ice cream.

Japanese Basque Cheesecake

  • Serve chilled for the best texture. Matcha flavour can be served at room temperature for a richer taste.
  • Pair with our four-berry compote or Biscoff crumbs to your liking.

How to Store

To keep our cakes fresh and moist, it's important to store them properly. Here are some general tips:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Refrigerate cake when you are not serving it.
  • Most of our cakes refrigerate well for at least 2-3 days.
  • Always cover cake or cake box with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container to protect it from dust and contaminants and prevent it from drying out.

For specific storage and shelf-life information, please refer to the individual product page.
