1. I live in another country but would like to order a cake for a friend. Can I?

Absolutely! We accept payments globally to deliver cakes to your beloved ones in London (soon for other parts of the UK). You can even add our Gold-foiled Card with your personal message to express your love in a sweeter way. However, since the cake recipient is different from the person placing the order, please pay attention to the following instructions to ensure seamless delivery:

  • Please ensure that you enter the cake recipient's name and contact number correctly, so that our driver can reach out to them. If you prefer, you can enter your own email address instead if you do not want the receipt to be sent to the cake recipient.
  • After placing your order, please reach out to us via WhatsApp at +44 7939089615 or send us an email at cake@404bakery.com. This way, we will have your contact information readily available in case any issues arise

2. I need a cake tomorrow. What should I do?

If you need an urgent order, please send us a WhatsApp message at 07939089615 with the word "URGENT" in your message, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

3. Do you deliver to places outside of London?

Yes we are now partnering with DPD to bring our Gâteau au Chocolat across the UK mainland! We are offering a limited-time delivery offer. For a single order, you can enjoy a reduced delivery fee of just £4.95. If you order £60 or more (that is, two or more Gâteau au Chocolat), you are entitled to FREE delivery. Our nationwide delivery service is currently available for Gâteau au Chocolat only. 1. All cakes look amazing. Which one should I go for?

Our cakes are all made to perfection, and we know it can be tough to choose just one. That's why we provide detailed descriptions and photos of each cake on our website to help you make an informed decision. Take your time to read through the information provided and look at the pictures to get a better idea of what you might like. You can also read about the unique features of each cake to see which one stands out to you. If you still find yourself struggling to decide, why not try a few? We currently offer FREE delivery or £10 off delivery charge on orders over £75, and many of our cakes keep well, especially our Gâteau au Chocolat.

2. How many people do your cakes serve?

A standard cake portion slice typically weighs between 70 to 120 grams, depending on occasions and preferences. The serving size and approximate weight of each cake can be found under the cake description. While our delicious cakes may tempt guests to indulge in an extra slice, if you find yourself having any leftovers, refrigerate or freeze the cake following the instructions provided on the same page.

3. Do all cakes contain alcohol?

Gâteau au Chocolat, the non-alcoholic version of Lisbon Chocolate Cake and all Japanese Basque Cheesecakes are 100% alcohol-free. If you're interested in a non-alcoholic version of any of our other chocolate cakes, please send us a WhatsApp message at 07939089615, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.

4. Are there gluten-free options?

Both Gâteau au Chocolat and Japanese Basque Cheesecakes are 100% gluten-free. While our other cakes do contain flour, we take great care in using only all-natural ingredients and incorporating less fat and sugar than traditional recipes.

5. What should I do if I have other allergy or dietary requirements?

We understand that dietary and allergy requirements are important, and we want to ensure that our customers have peace of mind when enjoying our cakes. We list all the ingredients and dietary advice for each product on our website. 6. How are the cakes packaged?

Our cakes are packaged with care to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. Round cakes come with a sturdy cake board, a cake box, and a paper bag. Gâteau au Chocolat is also contained in a high-quality cake box. You can see the packaging for each cake on the last photo on its product page. Rest assured that we take every precaution to ensure your cake arrives safely and beautifully.

7. How long can the cakes be kept?

Our chocolate cakes are made with high-quality ingredients and can keep well when stored properly. Gâteau au Chocolat particularly freezes well for up to one month. You can find all shelf-life information, including storage instructions, on each cake's specific product page.

8. I want to order two cakes for free delivery but I'm worried about not being able to finish them. What should I do?

Many customers choose Gâteau au Chocolat as their second cake because of its excellent freezing properties. Gâteau au Chocolat, in particular, is an ideal gift for dinner parties, picnics and gatherings as it can be safely stored at room temperature for extended periods.

Delivery & Pickup

1. What delivery options do you provide?

At 404 Bakery, we offer a variety of delivery options to meet your needs. For customers in London, we provide a professional door-to-door delivery service where our drivers will carefully hand over your cake directly to you or a trusted person, ensuring that your cake arrives in perfect condition. We offer two delivery time slots, from 1-6pm and 6-9pm, and the delivery fee will be calculated during checkout after you enter your address.

Alternatively, you can pick up your order from our Dalston store at no additional delivery fee. More information can be found on our "Store" page.

For customers outside of London, we are partnering with DPD to offer nationwide delivery service across the UK mainland (only applicable to item "(Nationwide Delivery) Gâteau au Chocolat"). For more details, please go to the "Nationwide Delivery" page.

2. Where do you deliver to?

We deliver to both residential and commercial addresses in London. Our delivery charges are determined based on the distance from our store in Dalston E8 and will be calculated automatically during the checkout process. You can choose from two delivery timeslots: 1pm to 6pm or 6pm to 9pm. Our delivery service is available 7 days a week, including Sundays.

3. Can I set a specific delivery time?

For door-to-door London delivery, we offer delivery timeslots between 1pm-6pm or 6pm-9pm, and please choose your preferred timeslot when adding a cake to your cart. To ensure smooth delivery, kindly ensure that someone is available to collect the cake with your order details (name and phone number). If you are not available, you may provide a safe place for the courier to leave your cake, or nominate a neighbour who is willing to accept on your behalf. Most of our cakes can stay at room temperature for at least 1-2 hours indoors.

For DPD nationwide delivery, the timeslot is fixed to be 7am-7pm by DPD. However, DPD will provide an one-hour delivery timeslot notification via text or email on the delivery date, ensuring you don't have to wait around all day. For more details, please go to the "Nationwide Delivery" page.

4. Where is your store?

Our store is located in Dalston, open 7 days a week from 10am to 9pm. Please select a pickup time slot when adding your cake to the cart. Currently no walk-in purchase is available, so please order online before you come and collect your cake. 5. Do you deliver on public holidays?

Our store is open every day of the year, including public holidays, so you can always order online and pick up your cake in-store at your convenience.

For London deliveries, simply check the delivery calendar on each product page to make sure we're available on the day you need us. Please note that while our drivers do deliver on Sundays, we may not be able to offer delivery on certain bank holidays. If it is an important date to you but you cannot select it, Whatsapp us at 07939089615 and we will try our best to cater your needs.

For DPD nationwide delivery, currently only Mon-Fri are available excluding bank holidays. However we may have special arrangements for Christmas so please stay tuned for our updates!

6. Do you offer free delivery?

For London door-to-door delivery, we currently offer FREE delivery or £10 off delivery charge (based on address) for orders over £75. Many of our cakes keep well, especially our Gâteau au Chocolat. Cake pick up from our store in Dalston doesn't have any additional charge.

7. Can I select multiple delivery methods/addresses/dates within one order?

Thank you for your interest in our cakes. Each order can only have one delivery method, date, and address. If you would like to order cakes to be delivered on different dates or to multiple addresses, we kindly ask that you place separate orders through our website. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

8. Is there a possibility of delays or damage during nationwide delivery?

While DPD has a very high success rate for delivery according to their official claim, we are sorry we cannot be held responsible for any delivery delays caused by DPD. We therefore recommend choosing a date one day in advance of your desired serving date to account for any unforeseen delays. Our Gâteau au Chocolat can be stored at room temperature for at least 48 hours or refrigerated for 5-7 days. We are also using DPD Next Day delivery service to keep it fresh. So if you receive the cake one day earlier, you can savor its taste without compromising its quality.

We have tested multiple times and the cake has never been broken. If, however, your cake arrives broken and inedible, please contact us immediately, and we will promptly resolve the issue for you.

1. When should I place my order?

We accept orders from 3 days up to 2 months in advance. Since our cakes are made in limited batches and baked to order, we recommend placing your order as early as possible. In case of urgent orders needed within 48 hours, please send us a WhatsApp message at 07939089615 with the word 'URGENT' included, and we will respond promptly to assist you.

2. What should I do if I need the cake tomorrow?

If you need an urgent order delivered within 48 hours, please send us a WhatsApp message at 07939089615 with the word "URGENT" in your message, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

3. Can I buy directly from your store?

Currently we do not take walk-in purchase for whole cakes. Please order online before you come and collect your cake. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and any updates on in-store items will be announced on our Instagram @404_bakery.

4. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept most online payment methods including, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay, Apply Pay, Google Pay, Discover, Diners Club, Maestro and Shop Pay.

5. Why can't I select my desired date?

Due to our cakes being handmade in limited quantities, some dates may become fully booked and unavailable for selection on the calendar. If you need a cake on a specific date that is not available, please don't hesitate to contact us via WhatsApp at 07939089615. We'll do our best to accommodate your request and see if we can find a solution that works for you.

6. Will I receive a confirmation email?

Your order will be confirmed once payment has been received. After payment, a confirmation email will be sent to you. Additionally, a delivery or pickup reminder email or message will be sent one day before your scheduled collection date.
